In this article I am going to explain the efficient usage of images on our web pages. Many sites are filled up with images but apparently no other content. This article is mainly focused on them.
As an SEO I have been consulted by many webmasters with their websites which are beautifully designed for users with colorful images,flash works etc. The texts are beautifully written on the images in wonderful fonts. They did their best on the website but the problem is google is not indexing their site properly. In my preliminary analysis I found the following details.
1. Most of the websites are using flash excessively
2. There are not enough content on their website.
My first suggestion was remove the flash from their site. Some of them agreed but most of the designers rejected the idea. Then I explained why I suggested them to remove flash from their website. Search Engine spiders are still facing issues with indexing pages which are using excessive amount of flash on it. The next challenge I faced was the lack of content. All SEO works for a website can be useless if there is no content in it. I recommend them to add more content on their site as content is the king in SEO. But some of my clients were professional photographers and they are not willing to add more content on their site.
The solution for the issue was adding alt text to the images.Alt text is an alternative information source for those people who have chosen to disable images in their browsers and those use text only browsers.The Search Engine spiders also see the alt text. The site owners have written the text on the image. I changed it to the following method.

I also recommend them to add a title and small description for the image. The image title should not be the alt image text. Both should be different. I suggested the following HTML format to them for image links.

After making these on-page changes google started to index their page. Reason is now google spiders found some data on their site. So it can identify the web page and put the web page in the correct category.
The major points we need to note while using images on our website are:
1. Images cannot be read by web spiders
2. Still text browser is famous due to various reasons.
3. Alt text for images is readable by web spiders.
4. It is better to use image title and description.
So in a nutshell if we use images in a smart way on our website that will help us to boost the indexing on major Search Engines.
