I know the heading of the post is really silly for any one who are familiar with Search Engine Optimization. I am just publishing this post because yesterday night I was on a phone call with my Client and he himself a web programmer. I was explaining him about the benefits of getting dofollow links to our website and the uselessness of nofollow attribute. While I was talking he just went to silent and with shy he asked "What is the difference between nofollow and dofollow"?

Right at the point I understood that it is my mistake to believe that this gentleman knows the difference between nofollow and dofollow links. Even though he is a programmer it is not his department to add nofollow attribute to a link. He is just concentrating on the functionality of his website and not it promotions and PR.

Difference between nofollow and dofollow links

When google adopt Page Ranking system where the PR is purely depends on the back-links some webmasters started to abuse the system by spamming the blogs and forums. So google introduce nofollow attribute. Any link with nofollow attribute doesn't pass link juice to the target web page and not counted by google. The links without nofollow attribute is called dofollow links where it is counted as a back link. 

How to check a link nofollow or dofollow

There are many free tools available in Intenret to see nofollow links with a different color. But what I am using is normal firefox. I just right click on a link and click on properties. In properties for nofollow links the relation should be mentioned as relation= nofollow.
