Patent violation Wars Prevent Customers from Getting Better Services

Right now the courts are busy with hearing patent violation suits between top level companies. Those includes the recent patent law suit between Google and Oracle, Apple Vs Samsung etc.
It is true that the companies which put money in research and development of new technologies have the right to protect their intellectual properties but if we examine the recent cases most of them are just to prevent their competitors entry in market.

Having the patent of a minor technology in a critical niche can prevent others conduct any research on the same. As a result, it can lead to a monopoly of the patent holder and customers are forced to buy the services or products offered by the same. Even if the quality is lower than expected, users do not have any other choice because the market is forbidden for other companies.

Let us say if a specific company had the patent over the entire Internet (at the beginning of Internet), could we see today's rich, informative network of network (Internet) in its full glory ? In the same way if Thomas Alva Edison used his patent for incandescent lamp just being rich, what would be the situation. Google also shares the same feeling. Pablo Chavez, Google's public policy director said, "We think that these patent wars are not helpful to consumers,". He also added that most of Patent wars are just to prevent competition and those kind of actions will not help innovation.
